You Don’t Have to Stay the Same

Each moment is a new era

It’s been a while since I wrote a piece on here — two years, in fact — but I couldn’t think of a better topic to come back with.

In these past couple of years, I’ve gone through periods of moving in and out of various ruts, feeling like I’m not moving forward in life. In looking back on the times when I felt some momentum, I remembered that I had this truth in the forefront of my mind.

As ironic as it is, I believe that part of the reason I was in a rut in the first place was I was looking back so often. Doing that only brings the past into the present moment and so, you’ll keep living out past experiences. And not only that, so often I think we use the past as evidence as to what the future is going to be, more specifically how we are going to be in the future.

Nah. Your past doesn’t determine your future. YOU do. Right now.

Why?…

YOU ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO STAY THE SAME. AT ALL. You are under no obligation whatsoever to be who you were a decade, a year, a month, a week, a day, a minute, EVEN A SECOND AGO. You have every right to change, to evolve, to unfold, to elevate as well as the freedom to do so.

…Period. So with that, because you don’t have to stay the same, your life doesn’t have to stay the same. It’s still early in 2021. Just because your life has looked a certain way last year and beyond doesn’t mean this one has to be the same. You can flip your life around and go in a completely new direction.

And you can do this at any moment. Because here’s something I learned recently:

Every moment is a new era.

You don’t have to wait for “New Year’s”, Monday, tomorrow, or anything like them to begin anew. As I write this it’s 9:38:50 pm PST. At that moment a new 365-day cycle to 9:38:50 of 2022 just began. That could be my January 1st. The moment you read this sentence you could start a new year. It doesn’t even have to be a year. Your new era can be as long or short as you want it to be. At this moment, right now as you read this, you could decide to start a 3-year, commit to changing your life compelely and call it “The Level Up”.

No matter what you choose to call it, and no matter how long or short it might be, the message is this: You aren’t bound by your past. The past is not evidence of what’s to come in the future. How YOU were in the past is not evidence of who you can be and what you can do in the future.

Your past does not dicate the future. You do, in this moment. Your life doesn’t have to stay the same. You don’t have to stay the same. You have to right to change both as you please, when you please.

No apologies.
